From 1 June 2025, significant changes will take effect regarding how passengers travelling to the UK prove their immigration status.
As part of the transition to a fully digital immigration system, Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), with an expiry date on or after 31 December 2024, will no longer be accepted as evidence of the right to enter the UK. The final date for temporary acceptance of BRPs is 31st May 2025.
What does this mean for operators?
- From 1st June 2025, operators must no longer accept BRPs with an expiry date on or after 31st December 2024 as evidence of permission to enter the UK.
- Travellers must instead use a digital travel authorisation document, such as eVisa or ETA.
- Operators should expect to receive a status message: “0A – Valid Permission to Travel Found” as a confirmation of a valid UK travel permission.
What if the system returns a “0Z” response?
- A “0Z” response is expected in the following cases:
- British and Irish citizens;
- Airline crew members.
- For all other passengers: Check their physical documents – confirm whether the passenger holds a valid visa in their passport or another acceptable physical travel document.
- Request a Share Code: This allows the operator to verify the traveller’s immigration status using the official UK's online tool -> check someone’s immigration status.
